Meet Stefan Anderson-Findley:
Guitarist and Vocalist
Stefan’s musical venture began in the seventh grade where he picked up a guitar and hasn’t set it down ever since. He made his way into the church youth group band where he began exploring band dynamics and what it meant to perform with other musicians. Continuing into high school, he took what he learned from the performance side of church and applied it to a group he and his friend Kyra created together called Bois D’arc. They performed all over town for over seven years with the release of an LP, “Hedge Apple,” and an EP, “Motions.”
From there, Stefan saw an opportunity to continue his growth as a musician and took the leap to go on an east coast solo tour, performing at various bars and coffee shops. It was on that tour that he reacquainted with his friend, Nordista Freeze, and went on to tour with him as a drummer. Inspired by that experience, Stefan was driven to create his own path with a group of like-minded musicians. Finding himself back in Pueblo, CO, Stefan was playing his guitar with a friend when a stellar gal found herself passing by and stopped to listen. She introduced herself as Jeannine Anderson and wanted to join in on the jams. From that moment on, Stefan took the opportunity to pursue a relationship with Jeannine, discovering that they both share in the love of music. This is where The Canary Initiative was founded - brought to life with a drive to spread the message of love. Stefan finds most of his joy through performing with The Canary Initiative and continues to expand his musical knowledge through jamming with others.
Meet Jeannine Anderson-Findley:
Violinist, Keyboardist, and Vocalist
Born to a musical family, Jeannine grew up in a multi-instrumental and multi-cultured home. She began formal classical training at the age of 7, studying the violin and singing in choir. Informally, she sang in the church gospel choir. She continued her education in music throughout her teens in Andover, MA, and later attended the University of Missouri School of Music. Throughout her life she has continued this pattern of formal and informal development, with the help of teachers and collaborators far and wide. Ever pushing the boundaries of her own comfort zone, Jeannine took an interest in improvisation and started moonlighting with country, blues, bluegrass, and rock bands around Missouri, while studying jazz theory and improv in college. She has toured and traveled as an artist and teacher - though she is always a perpetual student of music. However, after spending all of her musical career playing other people's music, she was ready to apply everything she had learned.
In 2020, she moved to Colorado and met Stefan at local mainstay, Solar Roast Coffee. She was inspired and intrigued by his music and singing voice. They hit it off and a short time later created The Canary Initiative, a project within which they can freely express themselves.
Meet Tristan Murphy:
Percussionist and Drummer
Tristan is a percussionist in the truest sense of the word: 'he hits things rhythmically.’ Hailing from Chicago and honing his skills there as a fledgling drummer, he cut his chops with many multi-genre bands in bars, clubs, churches, and some basements, all around the Windy City. He has found a warm home in The Canary Initiative, where he can expand his hopes and dreams of musical entrepreneurship and development.
Tristan's musical influences range from Blind Willie Dixon to Blind Melon, with everything in between, and outside, influencing him. He is a lover of jazz, blues, rock, folk, soul and neo folk-soul.
